Timothy House is a non-denominational in-house Regeneration facility for men with drug and alcohol related issues. Located in the town of Talking Rock, Georgia, the Timothy House offers a unique approach to treating these issues. It addresses spiritual issues and depends upon the healing and delivering power of Jesus Christ.
Though we often prefer to ignore the evidence, drug and alcohol abuse permeate our society. One out of every ten Americans are addicted to a chemical substance, with sixty percent of drug users living in the cities. The damaging effects of these addictions extend well beyond the individual and reach into the community.
Alcohol and drug abuse are the result of a sin problem—not social problems– and are only effectively treated through spiritual transformation and inner healing. Change of habit alone will not bring deliverance. A change of heart is essential—and that only comes by the grace of God.
History of the Ministry
The Timothy House Ministry was birthed by a group of believers whose vision is to help those who have addictions and are ready for Jesus Christ to transform their lives. We are a group of believers that agree with what the Bible says in:
John 8:36 ; “ Therefore if the SON makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
Micah 6:8 (NKJ) ; “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Program Structure
The first thirty days, for all men, are spent in intense Discipleship and Preparation and are devoted to intensive discipleship classes. These classes teach respect, self-control, love, forgiveness, and accountability based on God’s Word and His universal laws.
All men are different and the needs of all men are different. This is why we try to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in regards to the length of stay for each man. It is also why some men receive 30 days in house and why others may receive 120 days in house. It all depends on the level of addiction for each man.
In addition to classes, each man has morning and afternoon duties. The men are put on work crews that garden, cook, clean, repair the property and build new on-site facilities. This teaches participants new skills and helps them focus on becoming productive. Individual and group sessions are scheduled throughout the day. Evenings are devoted to seminars and discussion groups led by community volunteers on issues concerning basic work habits, job hunting techniques, and people skills.
At some point each man will be responsible for getting and holding a job. The men are placed in jobs appropriate to their skills. They will work a regular day and return to the Timothy House at night. They are required to continue all evening classes and activities. They also continue doing their morning and evening duties. The men work around the facility making improvements and doing general upkeep on a regular basis.
Rebuilding Trust Through Family Involvement
Family members also struggle with spiritual issues and this hinders restoration of trust. Therefore, family members are encouraged to speak with the staff whenever they have any misgivings, issues or problems with their loved ones. Each meeting scheduled can and will minister to their particular needs. We have an open door policy and will make ourselves available to you whenever it is needed. Wives, children, parents and siblings are strongly encouraged to receive spiritual healing so that the home environment is made safe and stable, and family members are able to forgive and love again.
Restoring Confidence Through Community Interaction
To help restore that sense of belonging and confidence, the Timothy House participants take an active role in community outreaches such as feeding the hungry and helping with public service projects. This benefits not only Timothy House participants, but the needy within the community as well.
It also provides an opportunity for them to put biblical principles into practice such as loving thy neighbor. Assuming responsibilities in a positive Christian environment helps equip these men with the abilities and confidence they need to re-enter society as contributors.
